Surviv.io

Surviv.io was a free-to-play 2D top-down battle royale browser game that became one of the defining .io titles of its era. You parachuted onto a 250-player map, scavenged weapons and medical supplies from buildings and crates, and fought to be the last player standing as the safe zone progressively shrank. Compact matches, pixel-perfect gunplay, and near-zero friction — no install, no signup, just join a lobby and play.

How it played

Drop, loot, fight, survive. Weapons spanned SMGs, ARs, shotguns, sniper rifles, and grenades. Armor and helmets came in tiers; medical items ranged from bandages to medkits with casting times. The gas zone pushed survivors toward the center on a timer. Solo, duo, and squad queues were all available, with each mode rewarding different play styles.

Why it mattered

Surviv.io proved a browser could deliver a full BR experience before mobile BRs saturated the market. Its clean 2D design emphasized map knowledge, positioning, and trading over raw aim, and the tight match cadence (sub-10-minute rounds) kept engagement high.

Status

The original Surviv.io was taken offline by its publisher. The game lives on through community forks and spiritual successors — Suroi.io (open-source, inspired by surviv), survev.io, and others continue the 2D BR tradition.
